Production - who and where is RE.TWINED?

RE.TWINED - this is no big company or factory,

no cheap production or exploitation of people,

neither an obscure label.

RE.TWINED - that's  me - HANNA -

With my sewing machine I

upcycle old sails and marine fabrics

in my small workshop in Tenerife.

Every single RE.TWINED backpack or bag is

handmade by me

for you!

Therefore each manufactured piece is

an absolute unique and despite the same pattern

always different.

*All processed sail fabrics are parts of used sails which have been exposed to extreme conditions such as fluttering, reefing, jibing, turning, rolling,.... It is a woven, very durable material marked by rust stains, salt water edges, scratches, old seams and wrinkles from the exciting times of his old life.

Old life because too much sunlight has a negative effect on the quality of the sail fabrics: The fabric discolours and in places becomes brittle and fragile. This circumstance unfortunately makes the repair of some sails impossible. Parts that have not (or just little) been exposed to UV radiation are still excellently suited for further processing. I get my sails from sailors here in a small marina on Tenerife. They have been sailing many nautical miles with big yachts, skippers and pirates between the Canary Islands and the Caribbean.

**Most of the processed canvas fabrics are leftovers from a sailmaker. As the colour palette is quite small, I buy a few additional colours. Parts of old cake stalls or biminis, which have been sewn and replaced for the sailors, I use after careful cleaning for reinforcements or inside pockets. For the most part, however, I use new and hard-wearing blends.
